Your Tax Dollars at Work

Many of these improvements are supported by Measure H, the local infrastructure measure backed by the Chico Chamber. Other projects include additional public funding sources. Together, they represent continued investment in the roads, sidewalks and public spaces that help people move through Chico and connect with local businesses.



Here is a look at what is happening, where members may encounter construction and what customers should know. Since we’re talking all things roads and wheels, we’ve also included an update on a new downtown parking benefit this summer.

🚧 East 20th Street Rehabilitation

Where: From the Highway 99 on- and off-ramps north to Notre Dame Boulevard

When: Work began July 13, 2026

What’s happening:

• Road surface rehabilitation and restriping
• Bicycle lane upgrades
• New ADA-compliant curb ramps
• New signage and drainage improvements
• Possible intermittent nighttime closures

What businesses should know: East 20th Street is an important connection between Highway 99 and businesses throughout southeast Chico. Members, employees and customers traveling through the area should allow additional time and follow posted construction signs, lane changes and detours. Businesses in and around the corridor may remain accessible, but visitors should confirm current access conditions before traveling.

🚧 North Cedar Street Improvements

Where: West Fourth Avenue south to West Sacramento Avenue

When: Work began July 6, 2026

What’s happening:

• Full-depth road reclamation
• Drainage improvements
• New curb, gutter and sidewalk
• Landscaping improvements at Cedar Street and West Sacramento Avenue

What businesses should know: Traffic may be reduced to one lane during portions of the project. Members and customers traveling through the area should plan for additional travel time. The project also includes pedestrian and drainage improvements intended to strengthen access and functionality along the corridor.

🚧 Fair Street Rehabilitation

Where: East Park Avenue to East 20th Street

When: Work began June 29, 2026

What’s happening:

• Full-depth road reclamation
• New Class II bicycle lanes
• New sidewalks and landscaped parkway areas
• ADA facility upgrades along the corridor

What businesses should know: Fair Street experienced significant wear from heavy vehicle traffic during the 2018 Camp Fire recovery. Funded through a disaster recovery grant, this project will rehabilitate a corridor that played an important role during our region’s recovery. Businesses, employees, and customers should watch for changing traffic conditions while work continues.

🚧 South Park Drive Rehabilitation

Where: Cypress Street to Centennial Avenue in Lower Bidwell Park

When: June 8 through early August 2026

What’s happening:

• Full-depth reclamation with cement treatment and new asphalt paving
• New signage, striping and vehicle exclusion gates
• Root-protection measures for the park’s historic tree canopy

What businesses should know: South Park Drive is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic during construction. Visitors should use designated alternate routes and follow posted closure information. The City is coordinating with the Chico Area Recreation and Park District to reduce disruptions to scheduled summer camps and programs. This is the second phase of the project, following the rehabilitation of Petersen Memorial Drive last summer.

🚧 Work Underway: Ceanothus Avenue

Where: Manzanita Avenue to East Avenue

Construction is now underway on the Ceanothus Avenue Road Rehabilitation Project.

What’s happening:

• Road rehabilitation
• New curbs and gutters
• New sidewalks in areas where sidewalks were previously missing
• Pedestrian bulb-outs near Pleasant Valley High School
• A designated northbound right-turn lane into Pleasant Valley High School

What businesses should know: Members, employees and customers who travel through the area should allow additional time and follow posted traffic-control signs. The project is intended to improve the roadway and pedestrian connections along this section of Ceanothus Avenue.



Funding for the project includes Measure H, Pleasant Valley High School, and the Butte County Air Quality Management District.

What This Means for Chico Businesses

These projects reflect continued public investment in Chico’s transportation network and community infrastructure. While construction may require some additional planning this summer, members can help by sharing accurate access information, encouraging customers to allow extra travel time and promoting the Park and Go benefit to downtown visitors.
