Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Concert at monca

Revel in the folk sensibilities of the famed musician Gordon Lightfoot, during a live tribute concert at monca on Saturday, May 9th at 7:30PM.

Lightfoot was a Canadian singer-songwriter whose baritone voice and twelve-string guitar blended with thoughtful lyrics to create his signature sound. His musicianship and songwriting talents influenced many famous contemporary musicians. You can hear Lightfoot’s spirit reflected in the music of Neil Young, Bob Dylan and John Denver to start.

Honoring Gordon Lightfoot’s legacy, four local musicians will perform a selection of his songs, bringing to life his lyrics in the monca gallery space. 

This concert is a fundraiser for monca, with proceeds going toward similar arts and culture experiences for the community. Thank you to the performers who made this show possible! 

The musicians perform regularly together at the assisted living facility, Townsend House, in Chico, most Friday mornings. They began playing together in the Townsend House Jam Band when their musical mentor, Charlie Robinson, was a resident, and enjoyed their  connection with the residents so much they have been regulars for the past several years.

Performers:

Bassist Tom Haber has played in bands locally for the past 50 years covering multiple genres of music.

Bruce McMillan is the owner of the iconic Music Connection in Chico, which sells musical instruments and offers a multitude of music lessons for learners of all ages and levels. McMillan is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist and performs with many local bands including the Rattlesnakes. 

John Mahoney is a vocalist, pianist, and guitarist. John spent his career in biomedical research and teaching.

Gary Woods is a vocalist and guitarist as well as former filmmaker. He plays in the local band, Los Caballitos de la Canción, with Tom Haber. He is also a jazz guitarist/vocalist performing around Chico.
