DESCRIPTION:monca presents two new exhibitions on view from Thursday\, June 25\, 2026 through Sunday\, August 9\, 2026\, After the Storms AND The Ridge Tapestries A Community's Story. Join us for the opening reception celebrating the exhibitions at monca on Friday\, June 26\, 2026 from 6-8PM. Admission to opening receptions is FREE for all and the museum bar will be open for beverage purchases. Learn more about the exhibitions below. 🎨Experience After the Storms\, a solo exhibition by Belgian-born artist Herlinde Spahr. Featuring works created between 2013 and 2023\, this powerful exhibition explores a decade of personal transformation through innovative mixed-media techniques that blend painting and printmaking. Drawing inspiration from the natural world\, Spahr's striking black-and-white panels trace a journey from darkness to renewal\, culminating in Rising from Darkness. The Lotus. About working in black and white\, Spahr states: "A printmaker moves between the extremes of soot and soul\, between the stain of ink and transcendence. The journey is through a landscape of carbon and soot\, with the triumphant soul captured in the grime of ink." 🖼 Marvel at The Ridge Tapestries A Community's Story\, created by The Ridge Tapestry Project. Inspired by the 900-year-old Bayeux Tapestry\, this exhibit chronicles the culture\, landscapes and environmental stewardship of the San Juan Ridge. Like the Bayeux Tapestry\, the Ridge Tapestries are hand embroidered using wool thread on linen backing and composed of a larger upper narrative panel and a lower elaborative panel with a thematic border. More than one hundred volunteers have contributed over 3\,682 hours of stitching to the first four tapestries. Using traditional materials they have depicted the plants\, animals\, celebrations\, performances\, and events that define life on the Ridge. Each stitch reflects a personal contribution to a collective narrative\, creating a work that belongs to the community as a whole.
